India is the neglected COPD capital of the world

550 million patients across the globe have been suffering due to respiratory diseases like TB (Tuberculosis), COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and Asthma. India contributes to ~30% of the global burden of respiratory diseases, COPD specifically causes more deaths than AIDS, TB, Malaria, Diabetes put together! Spirometry is the gold standard test to diagnose COPD but requires a complex setup which is not accessible in remote areas and is unaffordable in such regions due to high costs. Thes test is often painful and also requires presence of trained staff- leading to most COPD patients going undiagnosed in most parts of the country.

Swaasa- a disruptive software solution

Swaasa, is a ‘software as a medical device’ solution which offers early screening of respiratory problems through audiometric analysis of cough sounds. The software can be used on a simple smartphone and completely replaces the expensive spirometer equipment. The test can be performed under a minute, by any frontline worker or by any person with a smartphone- at almost no cost!
