The Foundation engages in rewarding, recognizing and encouraging various stakeholders responsible for creating value for the society in science, technology and innovation domains
Anjani Mashelkar, Dr. R.A. Mashelkar’s mother, brought him up facing all the odds that a poor widowed uneducated mother moving to Mumbai with her only child – a six year old boy – would face. And this she did with courage and dignity. Her own circumstances never brought her down – she always expressed concern about the underprivileged people around her, and wanted her son to do something about it.
Anjani Mashelkar Inclusive Innovation Award was instituted by Dr. R.A. Mashelkar in 2011, under the aegis of International Longevity Centre – India. The aim is to recognize and reward innovators who develop solutions for the excluded members of society. The award is named after Dr. Mashelkar’s late mother, who raised him facing many hardships as a poor, uneducated widow. In spite of her own circumstances, she always wished to do something to improve the quality of life of resource-poor and disadvantaged people.
For over a decade, the award has been instrumental in recognizing and rewarding impressive high-technology solutions made available at astoundingly low costs to the masses. The jury for this prestigious award comprises of distinguished personalities and eminent leaders from the areas of science and technology, healthcare, innovation, social work and business.
Going forward, the vision was to create an umbrella organisation for rewarding and recognizing innovations focused on creating value for the society in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) and thus – Anjani Mashelkar Foundation.
